Bowie beat Gainesville 68–14 on homecoming night at the Leopards' home field Friday, Sept. 11, according to the result posted on MaxPreps, the service the University Interscholastic League uses to publish scores and records. The loss dropped Gainesville to 0–3, with all three defeats coming in non-district games.
Gainesville High School had designated the game as homecoming, with a 7 p.m. kickoff and the crowning scheduled for halftime.
The 54-point margin was the widest of the Leopards' three defeats this fall. Gainesville was shut out at Bridgeport on Aug. 28 and lost to Benbrook on Sept. 4, its MaxPreps schedule shows. Over those three weeks the Leopards have given up more than four times the points they have scored.

Bowie came in unbeaten and left the same way. The Jackrabbits had already shut out Callisburg and beaten Bridgeport, the team that blanked Gainesville in the opener, according to Bowie's MaxPreps schedule. Bowie is also the smaller school. UIL's enrollment figures for the current realignment put Gainesville at more than twice Bowie's student count.
Gainesville opened the year under state penalties. On Aug. 6 the UIL State Executive Committee suspended head coach Neil Searcy from football for one season, placed him on three years' probation, issued a public reprimand and ordered additional training, according to the league's published meeting results. The same ruling took four preseason practices and one scrimmage from the football program and put the school's athletic program on three years' probation with a public reprimand of its own.
Gainesville ISD named L.J. Searcy interim head football coach for 2026–27. He has worked for the district since 2016 and spent the six years before the appointment as a high school teacher and athletic coordinator, the district said in its announcement.
Friday's game fell outside district play. UIL assigned Gainesville to Class 4A Division II, District 6, for 2026–28. Bowie plays in Class 3A Division I, District 4, with Boyd, Paradise, Peaster and Vernon. Under UIL playoff rules, the top four teams in each district in Classes 2A through 5A advance to the postseason. Gainesville remained 0–0 in district play, according to MaxPreps.
The Leopards travel to Paris North Lamar on Friday, Sept. 18, for a 7 p.m. kickoff, according to the school's athletics schedule. District play opens at home against Ponder on Oct. 9, with Sanger, Krum, Van Alstyne and Lake Worth to follow, per MaxPreps.
