Sherman calendar put free Sara Evans show a day before Gainesville concert
Official listings paired Evans with Greg Guymon for Hot Summer Nights; city records document Sarah McRae’s work on the series but do not verify a broadcast preview.
Sara Evans and Greg Guymon appeared on Sherman’s schedule for a June 25, 2026, concert at Kidd-Key Park with free admission, according to Sherman Cultural District. The Hot Summer Nights date gave area listeners a scheduled music option the evening before Gainesville’s Summer Sounds concert, listed on the city calendar.
Sarah McRae holds the Tourism/Main Street Manager position in Sherman, according to the city’s staff directory. Her connection to Hot Summer Nights is documented in June 6, 2016, council minutes, which record council members commending her work on the concerts. The primary records reviewed for this report do not verify that she previewed the Evans booking on Morning Talk of the Town.
The Cultural District’s season listing described a Thursday schedule running from May 28 through July 16, with seven free concerts at Kidd-Key Park for the series’ 32nd season. A separate entry assigned Collective Soul’s July 2 performance to Lights on the Lake at Pecan Grove Park.
Hot Summer Nights’ 2026 schedule at Kidd-Key Park
The series’ 32nd season ran from May 28 through July 16. Lights on the Lake was separately scheduled at Pecan Grove Park.
For Gainesville, the June 26 listing named Champagne Yacht Club and Blackout Betty, with music scheduled from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Summer Sounds already had a history of offering music without an admission charge: a 2023 city calendar entry advertised three free summer concerts organized by the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sherman’s account of its Tourism/Main Street department explains how event promotion fits with its downtown work. The city revived Main Street in 2016 following a hiatus and joined it with Tourism because the programs shared objectives. Through Main Street, the city sought downtown planning assistance and access to grants. The combined office promotes city activities to residents and visitors.
The practice of placing local performers before headline acts also appears in older city records. An announcement preserved in May 7, 2018, council minutes named Fuel to open that season and said local bands would play ahead of the main performers.
Nearby Denison also advertised summer music without an admission charge. Its official Music on Main calendar scheduled Friday concerts at Forest Park during June and July, with a break for July 3.
Sherman Cultural District now describes the 2026 season as finished. Its recap says Hot Summer Nights will return to Kidd-Key Park in 2027; performers and dates are not specified.
