Sherman ISD will open its new 8,000-seat stadium to the public Saturday evening, six days before the Bearcats play their first varsity football game there. The district scheduled the open house at the Tommy Hudspeth Athletic Complex for 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12, with a ribbon cutting and student performances at 6.
Visitors enter through the west, home-side gates, and reach parking from W. Travis Street, according to the district's announcement. That announcement places the stadium west of Sherman High School at 2907 W. Travis Street, in Grayson County. Sherman's first varsity game there is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, against The Colony High School, the district says.
Sherman ISD's season-ticket announcement prices the inaugural package at $48 for a reserved seat across four home dates, or $12 a game. The district's ticket page lists adult general admission at $7 in advance. Denison ISD's published ticket information offers an adult premium deal of two adjacent reserved seats for $20 total, with limited pairs available beginning Monday of game week.

Grayson County's official returns from the May 6, 2023 election show the stadium measure, Proposition B, passing with about 64 percent, 1,690 votes to 943. Proposition A, the school-building measure on the same ballot, drew close to 71 percent. The district's Series 2025 financing presentation puts the two authorizations at $540 million together, with roughly $47 million of that for the stadium.
Trustees approved a guaranteed maximum construction price on Nov. 18, 2024, and the district announced then that the stadium would open in 2026, three years ahead of the 2029 date presented before the bond election. The district's construction pricing record dated Nov. 11, 2024 sets that maximum at about $55 million for the stadium and its site work, a construction pricing figure rather than a final expenditure total. Work began in early 2025 on the high school's existing field and track, reusing infrastructure already in place, the district says.
Sherman ISD says it has paid for its 2023 bond projects without raising the district tax rate, crediting a property tax base enlarged by high-tech industry. The district says the same program added 20 classrooms at Sherman High School in 2025 and calls for another elementary campus in South Sherman in fall 2028. Sherman ISD counted 7,487 students on Oct. 31, 2025, with 2,183 in high school.
Visit McKinney lists that district's stadium at 12,000 seats for three high schools, a project the lighting supplier Musco describes as about $70 million. Sherman ISD's announcement puts its home side at 5,000 seats, including 1,700 chair-backs, with 3,000 more across the field.

The National Federation of State High School Associations reported a record 8.27 million high school sports participations in 2024-25, with Texas leading the states. The federation also reported that boys' 11-player football participation rose in three of the four years after the pandemic.
Sherman ISD says it plans to keep using historic Bearcat Stadium after the new one opens.
