Texoma FC blanks first-place McKinney, tightening Ranger Division playoff race

Parker Plaxco scored twice as Texoma FC won 2–0 at Ron Poe Stadium on July 4 in a division where only the champion reached the postseason.

Texoma FC shut out division leader McKinney Chupacabras FC 2–0 on July 4, 2026, in USL League Two's Ranger Division, according to McKinney's season recap. Parker Plaxco scored both goals, McKinney's subsequent match preview reported.

The win tightened a three-team race for the division's only playoff berth. Entering the final stretch, Texoma had 18 points from nine matches, behind McKinney's 23 and Denton's 22, according to McKinney's breakdown of the title race. USL's July 2 preview identified McKinney as the leader and said only the Ranger Division champion would advance to the playoffs. Texoma's remaining schedule was two matches against McKinney and one against second-place Denton.

McKinney's official schedule records the loss at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney, Texas. The result reversed the teams' earlier 2026 meeting at Munson Stadium in Denison, which McKinney won 2–1, the schedule shows. McKinney's match preview said the defeat ended the club's perfect home record and was its first scoreless match of the season.

The Lone Star Division, also in Texas, received a runner-up berth under USL's announced 2026 format, while the Ranger Division had only its champion's spot.

The Ranger Division was newly established for 2026 and comprised Denton, Fort Worth, Lubbock, McKinney, Texoma and West Texas, according to USL. The restructuring came alongside a national expansion: USL announced 158 League Two clubs across 20 divisions and four conferences for 2026, including 25 expansion clubs.

McKinney finished its inaugural 2025 season with three wins, eight losses and one draw, fifth in the seven-team Mid-South Division, according to club records. Denton finished fourth at 7–4–1. Texoma came to League Two after its inaugural 2025 League One season, which ended 7–14–9, with average attendance above 1,200, according to USL's expansion page.

McKinney began 2026 unbeaten through seven matches, winning six, its season recap said, before collecting four points from its final five matches. The club finished third with 23 points.

Texoma kept winning after July 4. It beat Denton 3–2 and entered the final McKinney meeting with 24 points to McKinney's 23, McKinney's preview reported, meaning a draw would have secured the division title. USL reported that Texoma won its final five regular-season matches, finished with nine wins and three losses, and took the inaugural Ranger Division championship by two points.
