Texoma fuel costs remain above last year despite gasoline decline
AAA’s October figures show gasoline easing in Sherman-Denison while diesel rose, leaving both fuels more expensive than a year earlier.

The exposure to diesel costs extends beyond personal vehicles. Most U.S. farm and construction equipment uses diesel, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The agency also reports that trucks, trains and vessels powered by diesel carry nearly all products used by consumers. EIA diesel-use overview
AAA’s report of a national gasoline increase covered a week in September, before the October decline recorded in Sherman-Denison. The organization attributed that earlier increase to rising crude-oil prices amid volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. Higher oil costs offset the effect of the usual seasonal slowdown in gasoline demand, AAA reported. AAA’s Sept. 10 report
| National regular gasoline | Week ending Sept. 10, 2026 |
| --- | ---: |
| Average per gallon | $4.27 |
| Weekly increase per gallon | 13 cents |
Cooke County workers’ average trip to work took about 26 minutes, according to Census Bureau estimates covering 2020–2024 for workers age 16 and older. That measure provides commuting context for the regional prices; it does not establish how much county households spend on fuel. Census Bureau county profile
Oklahoma showed a similar pattern for gasoline on Oct. 20: AAA’s statewide average was lower than a week earlier but higher than a year earlier. Both regular gasoline and diesel averaged more in Oklahoma than in Texas that day, according to AAA’s state comparisons and Oklahoma data.
The easing in gasoline prices followed a record-setting month. AAA’s Oct. 1 report identified September as Texas’s most expensive September on record for regular gasoline. AAA Texas monthly report
Diesel has its own seasonal influences. EIA reports that fall and winter demand for heating oil, a closely related fuel, can increase pressure on diesel prices. Seasonal changes in agricultural fuel demand can also affect those prices. EIA diesel-price explanation
