Texoma Medical Center’s half-century milestone dates to 2015
Hospital records trace the Denison institution’s beginnings and later expansion, with Gainesville’s hospital offering a nearby capacity comparison.
March 25, 2015, marked Texoma Medical Center’s first half-century of patient care in Denison, according to the hospital’s historical account. Its services today include trauma treatment and intensive care for newborns, the hospital’s service directory says.
The hospital’s 2025 retrospective commemorated six decades since its first patient arrived on March 25, 1965. That opening date places the half-century anniversary in 2015.
Gainesville’s North Texas Medical Center offers a nearby comparison of hospital capacity. Published figures from TMC and NTMC’s operator, Community Hospital Corporation, describe different combinations of care within their bed totals:
| Hospital | Published bed total | Breakdown or included beds |
| --- | ---: | --- |
| Texoma Medical Center, Denison | 414 licensed | 333 acute care; 21 rehabilitation; 60 psychiatric |
| North Texas Medical Center, Gainesville | 60 | Includes 6 intensive-care beds and 12 women’s-center beds |
These are the institutions’ published capacity figures, rather than a reconstruction of their size at TMC’s anniversary. NTMC’s website identifies Gainesville Hospital District as its owner and Community Hospital Corporation as its operator.
The Denison Hospital Authority supervised construction of the approximately $2 million building at 1000 Memorial Drive, which opened as Memorial Hospital, according to TMC’s history. The same account dates the opening of its present Denison campus along U.S. Highway 75 to December 2009.
In its 2019 annual report, Universal Health Services described the addition of about three dozen medical-surgical beds on the new patient tower’s fourth floor. The company also reported completing unfinished space on the fifth and sixth floors to accommodate future beds.

A UHS subsidiary operates TMC, according to the hospital’s website. The hospital lists Level III designations for its trauma center and neonatal intensive-care unit, along with freestanding emergency departments among its services.
