Thackerville police to cover Flock cameras starting Monday
The department says the covers are part of its decision to stop using the license plate reader system.
The Thackerville Police Department will start covering its Flock license plate reader cameras on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, the department said in a public announcement on Facebook on Oct. 25.
The department said the covers are part of its decision to stop using the Flock camera system. The cameras are located throughout the community, the announcement said.
"We understand that technology can be a valuable tool in law enforcement, but we also recognize the importance of maintaining public trust, transparency, and respecting the privacy of the citizens we serve," the department wrote.
The department said its commitment to public safety is unchanged. Officers will continue proactive patrols, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations and community involvement, according to the announcement, which Chief Johnathan Buckaloo signed.
Buckaloo first said in early September that the department would end its contract with Flock Safety after a review of its needs, resources, costs and benefit to residents.
Thackerville sits just across the Red River from Gainesville on Interstate 35. In Cooke County, the sheriff's office uses Flock cameras for searches after crimes and for alerts on hot-list vehicles, according to its website.
