Diners in Cooke County can check menus, addresses and visiting days online before they drive to a meal in Gainesville, Lindsay or Valley View. The posted listings cover a downtown brewery kitchen, family restaurants, barbecue plates and a small-town winery bistro.
Krootz Brewing Company calls itself an independent craft brewery with a scratch kitchen. Wolf Den Family Restaurant names chicken fried steak and an all-you-can-eat catfish dinner among its dishes on its website. On its official menu, RibCrib says every one of its restaurants smokes meat over hickory each day.
Krootz gives its address as 315 West Elm Street, one block east of Interstate 35. El Tapatio has two Gainesville addresses. The city's local-amenities directory places the restaurant at 1205 North Grand Avenue, and El Tapatio's own website confirms a second location at 300 I-35. The same city directory points diners north of town to Dieter Brothers BBQ, at 401 East U.S. Highway 82 in Lindsay. To the south, Firelight Vineyards gives its address as 103 North Lee Street in Valley View.
The menus also let a family compare what supper will cost. Dieter Brothers' online ordering menu lists a sliced-brisket plate at $16.99. The same menu prices a fried catfish dinner with a baked potato, salad and Texas toast at $13.99. RibCrib's corporate menu lists a single-meat brisket plate with two sides at $19.49. That price comes from the chain's published menu, and it has not been separately confirmed at the Gainesville register.

Schedules differ from kitchen to kitchen. Krootz advertises service seven days a week. Firelight lists visiting hours Thursday through Sunday. The winery says it opened its tasting room on Valley View's historic town square in 2015, and its bistro added a full-time food menu in 2018. Wolf Den says it is family owned and operated and has served Cooke County since 2004. The Downtown Gainesville Alliance's business profile dates food service at Los Mariachis Mexican Restaurant to 1998.
The posted prices come as the national cost of eating out keeps climbing. The U.S. Department of Agriculture tracks a category it calls food away from home, which covers restaurants and other meals bought outside the house. In August 2026, those prices stood 3.4 percent above August 2025, according to USDA, while grocery prices rose 2.2 percent. USDA reports that food away from home accounted for 56.3 percent of total U.S. food expenditures in 2025. The agency's September 25, 2026 outlook forecasts a slower national increase in 2027 than in 2026. Those figures are national projections, not forecasts for Gainesville.

Local kitchens also carry weight on the city payroll. Gainesville's 2040 comprehensive plan, drawing on 2023 American Community Survey five-year estimates, reports that food service, lodging, arts, entertainment and recreation together make up 18 percent of the city's employment distribution. Census Bureau estimates show Cooke County's population grew about 7 percent from April 2020 to July 2025, roughly half the pace of neighboring Grayson County.
