Collinsville stays unbeaten with 50–47 win at two-time state champion Muenster

Collinsville kept its perfect season going Sept. 18 with a 50–47 road win at Muenster, according to the Pirates' MaxPreps schedule. Muenster has won the last two Class 2A Division II state championships, UIL records show.

The win lifted Collinsville to 4–0. It was also the Pirates' closest game this season. Their earlier wins over Tioga, Cooper and Bells each came by nine points or more, the team schedule shows. At Muenster, three points separated the teams.

The season totals on that schedule show the Pirates scoring about 44 points a game through four games. Opponents have scored about 32 a game against them over the same stretch.

Paxton Davidson plays quarterback for the Pirates. Collinsville's coach-entered MaxPreps profile lists him as a junior in the class of 2028. He wears No. 0 and also plays linebacker. The profile gives his name without a suffix.

The result broke a string of Muenster wins in the series. Muenster beat Collinsville 49–28 last season, according to its 2025 UIL season record. The 2024 record shows two more Muenster wins over the Pirates, one in the regular season and one in the playoffs. Both of those Muenster teams closed their seasons by beating Shiner in the state final, UIL's archive shows.

The two schools now play in different divisions. UIL's realignment for 2026–28 placed Muenster in Class 2A Division I, District 6, with Alvord, Chico, Nocona, Olney and Tioga. Collinsville is in Division II, District 9, with Celeste, Cumby, Era, Lindsay and Quinlan Boles. That made the September game a nondistrict contest.

Small schools like these two play in the country's largest boys' high school sport. The National Federation of State High School Associations counted a little over 1 million boys in 11-player football in 2024–25. Its figures show that total held about level with the two years before.

Collinsville's published schedule has the Pirates at Alvord on Sept. 25. Alvord is one of Muenster's District 6 opponents. On Oct. 9 the Pirates travel to Lindsay for a District 9 game.
