Cooke County forecast puts strongest rain chances Friday night

The National Weather Service expects a cooler Saturday in Texoma, with some sunshine returning Sunday and drier weather following.

Gainesville and Cooke County face an increasing likelihood of rain Friday night before a cooler Saturday, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach about 75 degrees, according to the National Weather Service’s Oct. 2, 2026, forecast. Showers remain likely Saturday, extending the wet-weather outlook into the weekend.

Friday’s county forecast paired considerable cloud cover with a chance of showers. The agency expected rain to become more likely overnight, then ease somewhat Saturday. By Sunday, forecasters expected sunshine to break through the clouds and daytime temperatures to recover. NWS county forecast

| Cooke County outlook | Rain probability | Afternoon high |

| --- | --- | --- |

| Friday | 50% | Upper 70s |

| Friday night | 70% | — |

| Saturday | 60% | Mid-70s |

| Sunday, becoming partly sunny | — | Lower 80s |

The regional forecast placed the end of the rain on Sunday night, Oct. 4, with drier conditions afterward. The weather service expected warming to resume later the following week.

A weak cold front was behind the cloudy, cooler pattern, according to the agency’s regional discussion. Forecasters expected daytime highs below seasonal norms alongside showers and thunderstorms scattered across the region. NWS forecast discussion

More rain would follow an already wet stretch across the weather service’s forecast area. Its early Friday discussion reported widespread rainfall during the preceding day and a half:

| Regional rainfall reported by NWS | Amount |

| --- | --- |

| Previous 36 hours, as reported at 12:47 a.m. CDT Oct. 2 | 1–4 inches |

Elsewhere in Texoma, an airport observation documented cloud cover before Friday began. Grayson County Airport, serving Sherman and Denison, reported an overcast sky shortly before midnight Thursday, according to the NWS observation.

The temperature change was uneven between day and night. A separate NWS fire-weather forecast for Cooke County put Friday’s daytime temperature above the previous day’s value, while its overnight temperature was lower than the preceding night’s. NWS fire-weather forecast

Seasonal records provide a broader comparison. Weather service normals for Dallas–Fort Worth show October’s average high about 10 degrees below September’s, with a higher monthly rainfall normal. Those figures describe DFW, rather than measurements taken in Gainesville. NWS climate records
