Cooke County Republican Women honored Deon Starnes at state luncheon, club newsletter says

Cooke County Republican Women named Deon Starnes its honoree at the Texas Federation of Republican Women's Tribute to Women luncheon in Georgetown on Sept. 17, 2022, according to the club's October newsletter.

The federation holds the luncheon every other year, and the honorees come from the clubs themselves. Its event page describes the honor as recognition for helping a local club, backing Republican candidates and working for the party.

Starnes came to the luncheon with a long record in party work. Her honoree biography in the club's September 2022 newsletter reported nearly nine years representing Senate District 30 on the State Republican Executive Committee, along with two turns chairing that body's Convention Arrangements Committee. The same biography listed a dozen years as a precinct chair in Denton County and two election cycles as Republican Primary Administrator. The club identified her at the time as district director for state Sen. Drew Springer.

A second woman with Cooke County ties was recognized the same day. Iron Tracks Republican Women of Van Alstyne honored Sue-Lynn Voigt, whom the October newsletter identified as an associate member of the Cooke County club and the federation's director for Senate District 30.

The county's place in the program runs back further. The club's June 2015 newsletter recorded former president Sharron Acker as a 2008 Tribute to Women honoree.

Seats at the 2022 luncheon cost $75 through Aug. 31 and $90 from Sept. 1, with club sponsorships at $250, the federation's event announcement shows. Its listing for the Oct. 26, 2024, luncheon put each ticket step about $5 higher and left sponsorships where they were. The program carried into 2026 under nomination rules that scale with club size, allowing one honoree for clubs of 100 members or fewer and three for clubs with at least 201.

One claim about online access to local coverage could not be confirmed. GvilleTX Newsroom found no primary source for a report that the Gainesville Register blocks visitors from the European Economic Area, which takes in the EU's 27 member countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. CNHI's personal data request page shows the company accepts EU residents' requests to see, correct or erase personal data, and it shows no Register-specific geographic block. The European Commission's guidance says the General Data Protection Regulation, adopted April 27, 2016, and applicable since May 25, 2018, can reach companies outside the EU that offer services to people there or monitor their behavior.
