Four Cooke County school districts have posted August board meetings tied to budget or tax-rate business, placing local school spending and property-tax decisions before trustees as the 2026-2027 school year gets underway, according to district agendas posted through BoardBook.
Gainesville ISD will hold a regular board meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, August 17, with a public hearing on the district's 2026-2027 budget and proposed tax rate, according to the district's BoardBook agenda. The hearing notice says speakers on the budget and tax rate will be given five minutes each.
For Gainesville residents, the meeting is one of the main public checkpoints before trustees act on the plan that funds campus operations and sets the local tax proposal. The August 17 agenda also lists district enrollment, a beginning-of-school update, Senate Bill 12 annual compliance certification and a Phase 1 bond projects update, according to the posted agenda.
Gainesville ISD's budget hearing follows an August 3 budget workshop where trustees reviewed the 2026-2027 budget summary, comparisons, tax-rate considerations and fund balance before the public hearing, according to BoardBook materials. The bond-project update is tied to Gainesville ISD's 2025 bond program; district bond information says Phase 1 runs from May 2026 through December 2027 and includes classroom additions, storm shelters, secure vestibules and other work at Edison, Chalmers and Intermediate campuses.
Muenster ISD scheduled its regular monthly meeting and tax-rate hearing for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, according to its BoardBook agenda. The agenda lists reports from the superintendent, technology, principal, counselor, athletic director, transportation and business manager. District records show Muenster ISD held a June 24 hearing on its 2026-2027 proposed budget before the August tax-rate hearing, and the district's budget page shows prior budget cycles have included workshops, public notices, proposed budgets and adopted budgets.
Era ISD will hold a regular board meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, August 17, according to its BoardBook agenda. The agenda includes special recognition for 2025-2026 Academic UIL state qualifiers and lists CFO Julie Maddux for a presentation on Era ISD's perfect financial integrity rating. Era ISD's consent agenda also includes 2026-2027 budget amendments, tying the meeting to budget business.
Valley View ISD-Cooke County scheduled a 6 p.m. Monday, August 17, public meeting to discuss the district's proposed 2026-2027 budget and proposed tax rate, according to its BoardBook agenda. The agenda lists Dr. C. James Womack as the presenter for the budget and tax-rate presentation, board discussion and public comments. Valley View ISD also posted a 6:30 p.m. regular meeting that same evening with action items on an amended budget proposal, proposed tax rate and an order calling a voter-approved tax-rate election.
The Texas Comptroller's truth-in-taxation guidance says school districts use one notice for budget and tax-rate adoption, must publish the meeting notice and must post a summary of the proposed budget on the district website. Texas Education Agency guidance for Senate Bill 12 says each school system must submit a board-approved annual compliance certification to TEA by September 30 beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
