Denison Fire Rescue Fights Boathouse Fire at Grandpappy Point Marina on Lake Texoma

Denison Fire Rescue crews fought a boathouse fire at Grandpappy Point Resort & Marina on Lake Texoma with multiple agencies assisting, the department said in a post on its official Facebook page. Texas Parks and Wildlife lists the marina as a Lake Texoma boat access point near Denison.

The department's post was brief. It said firefighters were at work on the blaze and that other agencies were helping, but it gave no start time or cause and did not say whether anyone was hurt. The post did not name the assisting agencies. It also gave no count of boats or structures involved and no damage estimate. As of publication, GvilleTX Newsroom had not located a separate government incident record adding detail beyond the department's statement, which remains the primary public account of the fire.

On its website, Grandpappy Point describes itself as a full-service Lake Texoma marina spread over more than 180 acres, with upward of 700 boat slips and more than 30 boathouses. None of the records reviewed by the newsroom say how much of the property burned or how many of those structures were involved.

The state agency's access listing describes the site as privately operated and open all year. Boaters pay a launch fee, and the ramp handles vessels up to 20 feet, according to the state page.

No official source has said what started the fire, and nothing in the department's post connected it to fireworks or outdoor burning. Rules on both depend on where an activity takes place. Fireworks are banned inside Denison city limits, according to the city's published guidance. In unincorporated Grayson County, retail fireworks stands must hold a county permit in addition to the state permit, and the county's inspection checklist requires exterior signs warning that no fireworks may be set off within 300 feet of a stand.

Outdoor burning in the unincorporated county carries its own requirements from the Grayson County Fire Marshal. Anyone planning a burn must register it with county communications the same day. Burning at night is prohibited, as is burning when wind is forecast at 23 mph or higher, and the county says the responsible party stays liable for any damage a burn causes.
