Denison Fire Rescue sets Aug. 8 water gun event at Radiovision lot

Denison Fire Rescue has scheduled a public water gun event for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, in the Radiovision Parking Lot at 530 W. Main St. The department, in an announcement posted to its Facebook page, called the event Battle of the Splash and invited residents to bring a water gun and try to out-splash its firefighters.

That post is the department's own notice, and it carries the event name, the date, the 10 a.m. start time and the address. Denison Fire Rescue described the morning as a summer recreation activity for community members, set up as a water battle between residents and the crew. The announcement asked residents to bring water guns.

The parking lot has come up in Denison's public records as a recreation site before. The City Council agenda packet for Oct. 4, 2021, posted on the city's meeting document server, included an item on a lease with RadioVision, L.P. covering 530 W. Main Street. According to that agenda item, the lease was for recreation uses, with Denison on Ice listed as the primary use.

Aug. 8 falls inside the season the city has posted for its own water amenities. The City of Denison's splash pad page says the free public splash pads at Forest Park and Texoma Health Foundation Park run from May 1 through Sept. 30 and are open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The pads open at the same hour the fire department's event is scheduled to start. Both pads are city facilities and are separate from the one-morning gathering at the Radiovision lot.

Similar water recreation events have appeared in nearby public records. Minutes from the Sherman City Council for July 2019 list a Parks and Recreation Annual Water Balloon Fight at Fairview Park.

Cooke County has a municipal counterpart closer to home. Gainesville, the county seat, operates the B.P. Douglas Park Splash Pad, and the city publishes the facility's rules and its limits on public use on its website.

The two kinds of water recreation reach residents through different channels. Denison Fire Rescue posted Battle of the Splash to social media, while the season and hours for the splash pads are listed on the City of Denison's website. The department's notice sets a single date and a single start time; the city page covers a five-month stretch of the calendar.
