Denison lists US 75 frontage-road closures into 2027
A Sept. 14 city notice scheduled a one-night southbound US 75 closure. As of Nov. 4, it gives no confirmed schedule for upcoming nightly shutdowns.
Drivers on US 75 in Denison face frontage-road closures that the city lists as running into 2027, according to city records. The southbound mainlane shutdown in Denison's Sept. 14 notice covered a single night, and that announcement provides no confirmed schedule for upcoming nightly closures as of Nov. 4.
According to the notice, southbound US 75 was scheduled to close from 9 p.m. Sept. 15 until 5 a.m. Sept. 16, 2026, with traffic routed off the highway at Exit 67. The same notice scheduled a new traffic pattern at US 75 and Spur 503 beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 16, changing access to FM 691, Texoma Health Foundation Park and the hospital.
The frontage-road closures run far longer. Denison's TxDOT notices page lists the northbound frontage road between Loy Lake Road and FM 691 as closed March 30, 2026, through February 2027. It lists the southbound frontage road between FM 691 and Loy Lake Road as closed April 20, 2026, through June 2027. The city cautions that schedules may change and that its notices are not updated in real time.
The Texas Department of Transportation places the US 75 improvement project in Sherman and Denison in Grayson County, according to the agency's Paris District project page. TxDOT says the work adds mainlanes, continuous frontage roads and U-turns, with reconstruction of ramps, bridges, drainage and interchanges where necessary. The agency lists safer travel, reduced congestion, improved traffic flow and better drainage as its goals.
The project dates back several years. TxDOT's hearing record places its beginning in July 2017, public meetings on March 22 and Sept. 6, 2018, and a public hearing on April 18, 2019.
The Grayson County Metropolitan Planning Organization's 2023-2026 Transportation Improvement Program describes the stretch between North Loy Lake Road and US 82. The program reported 10 fatal crashes over the preceding five years on the roughly 4.5-mile segment and classified its pavement condition as poor. It also stated that the segment carried more daily vehicles than I-35 in Cooke County, and more daily commercial vehicles than that stretch of interstate. The program anticipated congestion on the segment by 2038 and identified widening from four to six lanes as its capacity improvement. That is the program's forecast, not a measured outcome.

A May 2022 TxDOT transportation-program presentation listed $88.48 million for widening US 75 from North Loy Lake Road to US 82. The figure was a planning number, not final construction spending.
Statewide, TxDOT reported more than 1,800 active work zones in 2025, along with more than 28,000 work-zone crashes. Of those, 203 people were killed, including seven roadside workers. Most of the people killed were drivers or passengers.
