Denison Winter Farmers Market reopens Oct. 24 with $25 vendor spaces

The Saturday market at Katy Depot lists 26 dates through April 17, 2027, at a space fee equal to Gainesville's one-day vendor permit.

The Downtown Denison Winter Farmers Market reopens Saturday, Oct. 24, at Katy Depot, and its organizer lists 26 Saturday market dates running through April 17, 2027. Vendors pay a $25 space fee, according to the organizer's booking page.

That is the same amount Gainesville's municipal farmers market lists for a one-day vendor permit, according to the city's vendor page. The city's 2024-25 vendor application listed a $25 one-day fee as well.

The winter schedule picks up after the regular Downtown Denison Farmers Market wrapped its 2026 season on Oct. 3. That market ran Saturdays from April 25, with hours of 9 a.m. to noon at 701 West Main Street, according to its website. Its 2026 rules list a $20 weekly fee for a 10-by-10-foot booth.

The organizer names Brian Crist as market manager and says the winter market began serving Denison and Grayson County in 2024. By that start date, 2026-27 would be its third annual season, though the organizer's page does not number the season and does not describe Crist as the founder.

The organizer's listing describes an indoor market at Katy Depot. Katy Depot's own website gives the address as 101 East Main Street in Denison. The organizer's payment page prints West Main Street.

The winter operation follows an older market. The regular Downtown Denison Farmers Market opened on Chestnut Street in 2011 and moved to the 700 block of Main Street in 2017, according to its history page. Its vendor roster lists produce and honey from R&B Farms, beef and pork from SP Ranches, chicken from Untethered Feathers and several baked-goods vendors. That roster covers the regular market and does not establish who will sell this winter.

Untethered Feathers, whose website hosts the winter market's booking page, describes itself as a small poultry farm in Denison that raises chickens on pasture and sells frozen, vacuum-sealed chicken products.

Gainesville's city market, according to its vendor page, also offers a $150 annual pavilion space. It requires vendors to sell products they have grown, raised or made themselves and bars resale of purchased distributor products.

A 2019 USDA national survey estimated 8,140 farmers markets, 21% of them operating year-round. Saturday was the most common operating day, used by 52.4% of markets.

In McKinney, Chestnut Square advertises Saturday farmers markets from 8 a.m. to noon April through December and 9 a.m. to noon January through March, with holiday exceptions. The market's 2022-23 rules called for weekly markets from April through December and additional monthly winter markets in January, February and March.
