Free World's Largest Swimming Lesson returns to Denison's Waterloo Pool June 25

Waterloo Pool in Denison will serve as an official host site for the World's Largest Swimming Lesson on Thursday, June 25, 2026, according to the city of Denison. The city has scheduled free lessons at 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. and requires families to register online ahead of time.

Seats at each of the four hourly sessions are limited, the city says, and the classes are not open to walk-ups; a spot has to be reserved through the pool's online registration. Denison's event page says registered participants also receive complimentary open-swim admission at Waterloo Pool from 1 to 4 p.m. on the day of the event, the same window in which the lessons take place.

By the city's count, 2026 is the pool's 13th year participating in the event. The city's page does not describe those years as consecutive.

The World Waterpark Association, which runs the program, says it created the World's Largest Swimming Lesson in 2010. The association describes the day as a way to build awareness about swim lessons and water-safety education and to spread a message it calls "Swimming Lessons Save Lives."

Other swim lessons in the area are offered for a fee. In Gainesville, the Leonard Park Aquatic Center lists paid group lessons that are separate from the World's Largest Swimming Lesson. The city says registration for those classes opens April 1, 2026, with sessions at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and a later class at 6:30 p.m.

Sherman's The Splash Family Aquatic Center offers paid lessons for swimmers as young as six months old. The Sherman parks department lists 2026 registration beginning in April and sets the price at $45 for residents and $55 for people who live outside the city.

Gainesville's posted rules for the B.P. Douglas Park Splash Pad state that no lifeguard or facility supervision is provided and that parents are responsible for supervising their own children.
