Gainesville Area Visual Arts to stage 'Extraordinary Perspective' fall exhibition Sept. 6-13

Gainesville Area Visual Arts will open its fall exhibition, "Extraordinary Perspective," with a reception on Sept. 5 and a public run from Sept. 6 through 13 at the Santa Fe Depot Museum in Gainesville. The reception comes the day before the show opens to the public, and the exhibition stays up through the following week at the museum.

The fall show is one of two exhibitions the group mounts each year. GAVA says it uses both to support its work promoting visual arts around Gainesville and to fund the scholarships it awards to graduating seniors in Cooke County. The September exhibition and a winter fundraiser anchor that schedule.

GAVA's published 2026 scholarship requirements describe an award for graduating seniors who live in the county and plan to study visual arts after high school. The amount listed in those requirements is $1,000. Eligibility is not limited to one campus. According to the requirements, the award is open to seniors from public schools, private schools and home-school programs anywhere in Cooke County. The first-party materials reviewed for this report list that $1,000 scholarship and do not name 2026 recipients or any other award amounts.

The organization raises money for the scholarships through For the Love of Art, its annual fundraiser. GAVA has scheduled the 13th annual event for Feb. 6, 2026, with the proceeds going toward the awards it makes to local students. The fundraiser and the fall exhibition sit at opposite ends of the group's year, the show in September and For the Love of Art the following February.

Students at Gainesville High School have more than one local award to weigh. The school's counseling office keeps a public list of Gainesville-area scholarships, and the GAVA award appears on it alongside other sources. The arts group's own eligibility rules reach past any single school, opening the scholarship to graduating seniors across Cooke County.

GAVA traces its founding to 1992, when it started with 16 members. The group now reports a membership above 100, growth it counts across more than three decades. By its own account, the two exhibitions it stages each year carry both halves of its purpose: promoting visual arts in the Gainesville area and helping local seniors pay for visual-arts study after they graduate.
