For Sherman, the late-June losses came in the franchise's first season in the Texas Collegiate League. The Shadowcats' own site says the club joined the league in 2026. The organization describes itself as founded in 2023 and lists Veterans Field as its home, calling itself part of a Texoma community baseball identity.

The Texas Collegiate League is a wooden-bat summer circuit for college players. By the league's own account, it began in 2003 to give players with college eligibility remaining a summer environment modeled on minor-league baseball. The 2026 membership lists Sherman and Abilene along with Victoria, Acadiana, Baton Rouge, Brazos Valley, Lake Charles and San Antonio.

The two clubs sat far apart in the standings at the time of the series. Victoria's 17-7 mark led the league, while Sherman's 6-14 record placed it nine games back in its first summer in the circuit.
