Grayson County 9-1-1 Service Restored After Outage, Emergency Management Office Says

Callers in Grayson County can reach dispatchers by dialing 9-1-1 again, the Grayson County Office of Emergency Management said in an official update announcing that service had been restored after an outage.

While the problem lasted, the office had told anyone whose 9-1-1 call would not connect to hang up and dial 903-813-4411 instead to reach dispatch. That instruction came in two parts: do not stay on a line that is not going through, then use the ten-digit number. The office's later update says service has been restored, which is the county's all-clear for dialing 9-1-1 again.

Residents who wrote the alternate number down during the outage no longer need it to get to dispatch, according to that update.

Both notices came from the emergency management office's official Facebook page, the instruction issued while calls were failing and the announcement that the emergency line was working again.

What the office published does not explain the cause. The notice reviewed for this report gives no start time, no end time and no estimate of how long callers went without a working 9-1-1 line. GvilleTX could not independently establish any of those points.

The records reviewed also do not show how many calls ran into the problem or whether the failure reached every phone in the county. Whether any emergency response was delayed while the system was down is not addressed either. No phone company or equipment vendor is named in the office's notice, and the notice does not describe the work that restored service.

The record leaves other questions open. The update does not say whether text messages to 9-1-1 were affected along with voice calls, and it does not identify which dispatch center answered 903-813-4411 while the emergency line was down. Whether that number will be used again as a standby in a future outage is not something the update addresses.

The restoration notice is the most recent public statement on the outage among the records reviewed for this report, and it did not ask residents to take any further step. GvilleTX has confirmed no detail beyond what the emergency management office published. This report will be updated if the county releases more.
