Howe shuts out Callisburg 39–0 in District 7-3A Division II opener

Howe beat Callisburg 39–0 on Friday, Sept. 25, in the Wildcats' first District 7-3A Division II game, according to MaxPreps. The loss drops Callisburg to 0–1 in a league where four of seven teams will reach the playoffs.

The Wildcats came into district play after four non-district games, according to the team's published schedule. From here, the standings decide the postseason. The University Interscholastic League advances the top four teams from each Class 3A Division II district, under its playoff rules.

Callisburg shares that race with a nearby rival. The UIL's 2026–28 alignment puts Callisburg and Valley View in District 7 with Howe, Bells, Blue Ridge, Leonard and S&S Consolidated. The 2024–26 alignment had Gunter in the district and Valley View in District 6.

The new map came from the UIL's statewide realignment, which happens every two years. According to the league's realignment announcement, member schools reported their enrollment in October, the UIL built the football districts from those counts, and the result governs two school years. The league also lowered the division's limits slightly. Class 3A Division II now covers schools of 246 to just under 367 students, and Division I starts at 367. In 2024–26 the range was 254 to 368, according to the UIL's earlier cutoffs.

Five of the seven district schools appear in the UIL's 2026–28 enrollment rankings. Of those five, Howe is the largest at 346 students, and Callisburg is next at 331. S&S Consolidated, Bells and Blue Ridge follow, each within about 40 students of Howe.

Friday's score reversed last season's meeting. Callisburg won that game 14–11 on Oct. 24, 2025, according to MaxPreps. The same record shows the Wildcats ended 2025 at .500, both overall and in district play. Howe won two games that season, one of them against a district opponent.

The UIL names MaxPreps as its platform for results, records and statistics, and schools submit scores and corrections there through their own accounts. GvilleTX could not confirm individual statistics from Friday's game. The Howe team page on MaxPreps that was available for this report did not yet include the Callisburg result.
