Muenster defeats Tioga 53-48 in District 6 game
The five-point result counts in the race for one of four playoff spots in Class 2A Division I, District 6, a district the two schools share under UIL's 2026-28 alignment.
Muenster beat Tioga 53-48 in football on Oct. 9, according to the Hornets' results page on MaxPreps. The two schools now play in the same district, and the win counts toward Muenster's bid for one of the four playoff berths that district awards.
Under the University Interscholastic League's 2026-28 alignment, both schools sit in Class 2A Division I, District 6. Alvord, Chico, Nocona and Olney fill out the district. UIL sends the top four finishers from each Class 2A district to the postseason, so district finishing position decides who qualifies and a result between two district teams carries weight in the standings.
Muenster ISD's official calendar listed the varsity game at Tioga for Oct. 9, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The records reviewed for this report confirm the schedule listing and the final score, but not a box score or scoring summary, so this account does not describe how the game unfolded. UIL identifies MaxPreps as the platform behind its scoreboard, with information submitted by coaches and schools.
Muenster arrived in the district with two state championships behind it. The UIL championship archive shows the Hornets won consecutive Class 2A Division II titles, beating Shiner 36-29 in the 2024 season and winning 28-0 in the 2025 season.
The move up a division is what put the two programs in one district. In UIL's 2024-26 alignment, Muenster played in Division II, District 8, with a reported enrollment of 168. Tioga was already in Division I, District 6, with 234 students. UIL realigns schools every two years based on enrollment submissions. For 2026-28, the football enrollment range for Division I is 175.6 to 245.9, and Division II covers 105 to 175.5. Muenster's newest count of 180 sits just above the Division I floor.

That leaves Muenster among the smaller schools in its district. UIL's classification records list Tioga at 237 students, 57 more than Muenster. Muenster's enrollment falls close to those of Chico and Olney, according to UIL's enrollment rankings.
