Muenster opened its 2026 football season on Friday, Aug. 28, with a 55-0 road win over Lindsay in the Kraut Bowl, according to MaxPreps and school district records. For Cooke County readers, the result returned a named local rivalry to the schedule and gave the Hornets their first regular-season result since UIL realignment placed Muenster in 2A Division I.

MaxPreps listed the final as Muenster 55, Lindsay 0, and the game page says B. Carney supplied the score. Lindsay ISD had identified the matchup as the Kraut Bowl rivalry resuming and described the Muenster game as the start of the Knights' season. Muenster's posted varsity schedule also put Lindsay first among regular-season opponents, after scrimmages against Jacksboro and Valley View.

The result comes after a two-season state title run for Muenster in 2A Division II. UIL's football archive records Muenster as the 2025-26 champion in that division after defeating Shiner, and the same archive lists another Muenster title in 2024-25, also against Shiner. UIL's 2025-26 Muenster team page records two wins over Lindsay last season, one during the regular season and one in the playoffs.

The realignment context matters because the schools are no longer in the same football division for this cycle. UIL cutoff records for 2026-27 and 2027-28 place 2A Division I above 2A Division II by enrollment. UIL alignment documents list Muenster as a 2A Division I, 11-man football program, while Lindsay is listed as 2A Division II in 11-man football.

The longer schedule picture is split by UIL district lines. Muenster's district race is in 2A Division I District 6, where UIL lists Alvord, Chico, Nocona, Olney and Tioga with the Hornets. Lindsay is in 2A Division II District 9 with Celeste, Collinsville, Cumby, Era and Quinlan Boles. The Kraut Bowl result came before those district schedules.

Muenster comes home next. The Hornets' official schedule lists Holliday at Muenster at 7 p.m. Sept. 4. Lindsay ISD's calendar lists Alvord at Lindsay on Sept. 4, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

UIL's football archive says the league works with MaxPreps to make UIL results, records, team information and statistics available through the MaxPreps platform. That is the basis for citing the MaxPreps final score here.
