Muenster sends runner to state meet as Hornets host Olney on parents' night

Carly M. races in Round Rock Friday morning. The district has also moved the senior pep rally, named a new JV opponent and canceled its on-field veterans recognition.

Muenster's Carly M. runs in the Class 2A girls state cross-country race Friday morning in Round Rock. That evening the varsity Hornets host Olney in a district game the school has designated as parents' night, according to Muenster ISD. Families also face an earlier pep rally, a new junior varsity opponent and a canceled veterans recognition.

The UIL's state-meet notice sets the 2A girls race for 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Old Settlers Park, matching the district's listing. Muenster ISD will hold a send-off at 8 a.m. Thursday in front of Muenster High School.

The Thursday football plan has changed. The original 2026 football schedule sent seventh grade, eighth grade and the JV to Olney together for a 4:30 p.m. start. The district's athletics page now puts the junior high teams in Olney at 5 p.m. Thursday. A Nov. 2 district announcement confirms Alvord as the JV team's replacement opponent, but the game's time and location remain unverified.

A district calendar notice moves Friday's White Out senior pep rally in Hornet Gym from 3:05 p.m. to 2:55 p.m. Seniors from football, band, cheer and cross-country will be recognized at 6:25 p.m. Friday, and parents are asked to meet on the field at 6:20 p.m. Kickoff against Olney is 7 p.m. in Muenster.

The same notice cancels the recognition of veterans on the football field. The district says the Muenster PTO will still provide a meal for local veterans. The notice gives no meal time or location. Muenster ISD has separately scheduled a Veterans Day ceremony for 9 a.m. Nov. 11 in Hornet Competition Gym.

Carly M. qualified individually after finishing 18th at regionals, according to the district's Oct. 26 report. The report says the Muenster girls placed 12th as a team. UIL rules advance the top four teams, along with the top ten individuals who are not on those teams.
