No court case on file months after Whitesboro woman's arrest on firearm counts, Grayson County records show

Grayson County court records showed no criminal case on file against a Whitesboro woman as of July 31, close to five months after Whitesboro police booked her into the county jail on two firearm-related counts.

The county's jail records identify the woman as Marcie Kelley Layne and list her address as Whitesboro. According to the jailing record, she was booked on March 6 and released March 7, after one night in custody. The same record names the Whitesboro Police Department as the arresting agency and lists counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct by discharging a firearm.

A GvilleTX Newsroom search of the county's online judicial records portal turned up no criminal case under Layne's name filed between March 1 and July 31, the five months following the arrest. That absence supports a narrower conclusion than a formal dismissal. None of the public records reviewed for this report includes a dismissal order or a rejection notice from prosecutors, so whether the case was declined, remains under review, or was resolved in some other way cannot be determined from the county's public portals.

The jailing record itself is spare. It documents the counts and the dates Layne entered and left the jail, and little else about the circumstances. It does not say whether the arrest followed a disturbance, it identifies no one else involved, and no police narrative appears in the public record. Counts listed at booking reflect the arresting agency's allegations rather than charges accepted by a court, and an arrest is not a finding of guilt.
