GvilleTX Newsroom report
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick attended a July 27 campaign rally at the Sherman Municipal Building, according to his campaign and a Grayson County Republican Party event notice, bringing his 2026 campaign back to the Red River area just east of Cooke County. For Gainesville-area voters, the stop has a local tie: Patrick’s campaign recorded a Gainesville-to-Sherman bus-tour swing in 2022, and official county results show he led the lieutenant governor race in both Cooke and Grayson counties that year.
The Grayson County Republican Party notice identified the Sherman event as the Red River Roll Call and listed Patrick among its featured leaders and guests. Patrick’s campaign later described the Sherman rally as the opening event of its autumn campaign push.
The Texas Secretary of State’s elected-officials list identifies Patrick as the elected Republican lieutenant governor and shows his term expiring in 2026. That makes the Sherman stop part of a statewide race with direct local relevance for voters in North Texas, where statewide candidates often look to counties along the Red River for dependable turnout.
Official 2022 county summaries show Patrick carried both the host county and neighboring Cooke County by large margins in the last lieutenant governor election. Cooke County’s election report also shows a higher turnout rate than Grayson County’s report recorded.
| 2022 lieutenant governor results | Dan Patrick | Mike Collier | Shanna Steele | Registered voters | Ballots cast | Turnout |
|---|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|
| Grayson County | 34,180 | 9,592 | 1,028 | 92,342 | 45,187 | 48.93% |
| Cooke County | 12,458 | 2,442 | 329 | 28,708 | 15,391 | 53.61% |
State records show Patrick was declared elected lieutenant governor after the 2022 statewide canvass. The legislative canvass recorded a statewide win over Democrat Mike Collier and Libertarian Shanna Steele. Four years earlier, the 2018 canvass also showed Patrick ahead of Collier, with Kerry Douglas McKennon listed as the Libertarian nominee.
| Statewide canvass | Dan Patrick | Mike Collier | Libertarian nominee |
|---|---:|---:|---:|
| 2022 | 4,317,692 | 3,492,544 | Shanna Steele: 222,208 |
| 2018 | 4,260,990 | 3,860,865 | Kerry Douglas McKennon: 183,516 |
Patrick’s 2022 campaign account said the bus tour moved from a Gainesville stop to a Sherman press conference. His 2026 Sherman appearance again placed the lieutenant governor race before voters in the same North Texas corridor, with Cooke County close enough for the rally to matter beyond Grayson County lines.
