The Sherman Shadowcats lost 8-7 to the Baton Rouge Rougarou on Sunday, July 19, after Baton Rouge scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning at Pete Goldsby Field in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according to the Texas Collegiate League box score. The result matters for Gainesville and Cooke County readers following regional summer baseball because Sherman is in its first Texas Collegiate League season and had beaten Baton Rouge in each of the clubs' first three 2026 meetings, according to Baton Rouge's team recap.
The TCL box score lists Pete Goldsby Field, 1502 Foss St., as the site of the game. It shows Baton Rouge winning in its final at-bat after Sherman had a one-run lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
Tyler Sessions supplied Sherman's only home run of the game, according to the box score. Sessions finished with one hit, one RBI and two runs scored for the Shadowcats.
Baton Rouge's recap said the Rougarou entered Sunday's finale 0-3 against Sherman this season before the ninth-inning comeback. The same recap said the win moved Baton Rouge to 18-21 on the season.
The game followed another close finish between the teams in Baton Rouge. In a recap posted by the Rougarou for the previous night, Sherman beat Baton Rouge 6-4 in 10 innings on Saturday, July 18, during what Baton Rouge described as the Shadowcats' first trip to Pete Goldsby Field.
The setting also carried some league context. The Rougarou's Goldsby Field page says the ballpark opened in 1956 and has hosted past Baton Rouge minor-league clubs, Baton Rouge Community College and the Rougarou. The page lists the field's address in Baton Rouge.
Sherman's club website identifies the Shadowcats as joining the Texas Collegiate League in 2026. Baton Rouge's own website promoted the Rougarou as the defending 2025 TCL champions.
The Texas Collegiate League teams page lists an eight-team 2026 field with clubs in Texas and Louisiana, including Sherman, Abilene, San Antonio, Bryan, Victoria, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and Youngsville. For North Texas readers, Sherman's schedule gives the region a direct connection to the summer collegiate league's Louisiana road trips.
The Herald Democrat's Shadowcats item was used as a local assignment pointer for this report, but the game result and player line were checked against the TCL box score and team sources listed in the sourcing notes.
