Shadowcats Shut Out 3-0 at Abilene in Texas Collegiate League Play

The Sherman Shadowcats went scoreless in a 3-0 loss at Abilene on July 2, according to the Texas Collegiate League box score for the game. That record credits Charlie Boyles with the Shadowcats' hit, a single to center field.

The box score lists the matchup as Sherman at Abilene, with three runs for the Flying Bison and none for the visitors. Abilene's ticketing page carried the July 2 date at Crutcher Scott Field, which made the game a road stop for the Shadowcats.

Crutcher Scott Field is a new address for the Abilene club. Abilene Christian University announced in April, on its athletics site, that Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark had become the home stadium of the Flying Bison for the 2026 season. The same announcement said the team spent its first two seasons at Walt Driggers Field on the McMurry campus, which by the university's account puts the franchise in its third year of play. Both addresses are college fields in Abilene, one belonging to McMurry and the other to Abilene Christian, whose athletics department made the announcement about the move.

Neither club has a long history in the Texas Collegiate League. Announcing the change on its website, the Flying Bison organization said it was joining the TCL for 2026 after competing in the Mid-America League, and that Sherman was making the same move. By the club's account, the two teams shared a league before this season and now share a different one, which put them on the field July 2 as first-year TCL members.

The switch also shortened Abilene's calendar. In a post written for fans about the effects of the league change, the club said its schedule went from 64 games to the TCL's 48-game format, divided into 24 home dates and 24 road dates. By that count, half of the 2026 Flying Bison season is booked for Crutcher Scott Field.

Sherman's home games are played at Veteran's Field at Fairview Park. A City of Sherman facility listing names the park as the home of the Shadowcats and says it served for years as the baseball field of the Sherman Bearcats. That account comes from the city's parks records rather than from the team. The July 2 game was not played there; the league box score and the Abilene ticketing listing both place the meeting in Abilene.
