Sheriff's roster lists two Tuesday bookings at the Cooke County jail

Two people were booked into the Cooke County jail in Gainesville on Tuesday, Aug. 18, according to official jail-roster data from the Cooke County Sheriff's Office. The entries carry booking numbers 262932 and 262933. One lists a theft charge with no bond allowed. The other lists a parole violation and a drug charge.

The roster data reviewed for this report verifies the Aug. 18 arrest information. It shows no separate Aug. 19 publication timestamp.

The first entry names LaParis LaShaun Davis, arrested at 11:35 a.m. The roster shows one charge, theft of property valued at $30,000 to under $150,000, and lists no bond allowed.

The second entry names Fabian Chandler Ruiz, arrested at 2:26 p.m., with Gainesville listed as the arrest location. Two charges appear on that entry: a parole violation, and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 2 weighing under a gram.

A roster entry records a booking, not a court outcome. The Sheriff's Office open-records request form describes an arrest report as a book-in and release sheet that gives the charges and the dates in and out.

Texas law keeps basic arrest information public. Government Code Section 552.108(c) says basic information about an arrested person, an arrest or a crime is not excepted from disclosure under the law-enforcement exception that agencies otherwise use to withhold investigative files. Behind the roster is the jail at 300 County Road 451, which the county describes as a 212-bed indirect-supervision facility staffed by 45 employees. Montague County next door runs a smaller operation, a 101-bed indirect-supervision center on South Grand Street in Montague, according to that county's sheriff's office.

The county's dockets page listed a County Court at Law arraignment docket set for 9 a.m. that same Tuesday, generated Aug. 7 with 29 cases on it. No verified source available for this report connects the two Aug. 18 roster entries to that docket.
