Sherman Parks Calendar Shows No Lights on the Lake Listing for July 2 or 3

Reports of a Thursday fireworks show with Collective Soul at Pecan Grove Park-West do not appear on the City of Sherman's official schedule, which lists Red, White and Splash on July 4 as its holiday event.

Reports that Sherman will hold its Lights on the Lake fireworks show Thursday evening at Pecan Grove Park-West are not verified by the City of Sherman's official parks calendar, which shows no events on July 2 or July 3, 2026. The one holiday-weekend entry on the Sherman Parks calendar is Red, White and Splash, set for Saturday, July 4.

Unverified event details include a 4 p.m. start, free admission, free parking, food vendors and a headline performance by the rock band Collective Soul. None of those details appears on the Sherman Parks calendar or on the other Sherman Parks pages reviewed for this report.

The detail about the band conflicts with another city's published lineup. The City of Houston lists Collective Soul as a performer at Freedom Over Texas, its July 4, 2026 celebration at Eleanor Tinsley and Sam Houston parks. According to Houston's event page, that festival runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., ends with a fireworks finale and offers paid event parking nearby. No official source reviewed for this report places the band in Sherman.

Lights on the Lake does have a documented history at the venue. The Sherman Parks page for Pecan Grove Park-West describes it as a City of Sherman park that hosts the annual event each July. The same page says the park opened in July 2010 and includes an amphitheater with lawn seating for up to 2,000 people. The page does not give a 2026 date for the event. A similar gap appeared last year: the city's July 2025 calendar showed no events on July 3 or July 4 of that year while listing other programs that month.

Cooke County residents do have a confirmed event closer to home the same week. The City of Gainesville's official website lists Gainesville's Great American Birthday Bash for Friday, July 3, 2026, at Gainesville Municipal Airport. According to the city's posting, the event includes live music, food, shopping, family activities and a fireworks display.

As of publication, the Sherman Parks calendar at shermanparks.com shows Red, White and Splash on July 4 as the city's scheduled holiday event and no listing on July 2 or July 3, the dates attached to the Lights on the Lake reports.
