Sherman police report no evidence of bombs after Town Center Street threat call

Sherman police said officers found no evidence to support a bomb threat phoned in Wednesday night against a building in the 3300 block of Town Center Street, according to an update the department posted publicly. The same caller threatened to go inside and shoot and kill people, police said.

Sherman Dispatch took the 911 call at 8:13 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, the department said. The caller told dispatchers that bombs had been planted around the building. He then said he was going inside to shoot and kill people, according to the police update. Officers responded and began clearing and securing the area. Nothing was found to support the threat, the department said.

Police identified the location by block number. Cinemark's own theater page lists Cinemark Sherman at 3310 Town Center Street. Minutes from a 2017 Sherman Planning and Zoning meeting record that same address as the Cinemark property inside Sherman Town Center and name Cinemark as the tenant.

Cooke County law enforcement handled a bomb threat of its own earlier this year. The Gainesville Police Department reported responding to Frank Buck Zoo on May 17, 2026, evacuating the area and calling in the Denton Fire Department's bomb squad. In its written account, Gainesville police placed that threat within a wider swatting trend, meaning false emergency reports made to pull a heavy police response to a real address. Sherman police described the Sherman case as a reported bomb threat.

Texas Penal Code Section 22.07 reaches threats of violence made to provoke a response from an agency organized to handle emergencies, to put a person in fear of serious bodily injury, or to shut down the use of a public place.

Town Center has surfaced in Sherman public safety planning before. City Council minutes from 2017 record that officials had identified radio coverage problems in Sherman Town Center and discussed expanding a repeater to reach the development and the city's growth to the north. The development also sits inside Tax Increment Financing Zone No. 1. Council records from 2015 show the city dropped the zone's revenue pledge from 100 percent to 55 percent once the zone had generated enough revenue, with what remained going to the General Fund for infrastructure. Those records predate the July 8 call by years.
