Sherman police say one adult dead in murder investigation

Sherman police said one adult was dead in a July 10 homicide investigation at the Taylor Street bridge and in the 1300 block of West Taylor Street in Sherman, and the department said the case is being investigated as murder with assistance from the Texas Rangers. The Texas Department of Public Safety says Rangers conduct criminal and special investigations and help local law enforcement agencies respond to crime and violence.

The location identified by Sherman police places the investigation along West Taylor Street in Sherman. The department's first-party unsolved-cases page separately lists older major investigations in Sherman, including murder cases dated from the 1980s through 2018.

DPS says the Texas Ranger Division is the criminal investigative branch of the agency. Its public responsibilities page says Rangers' work can include murder investigations and assistance to local officials, which explains why their participation is part of the public record in the Sherman case.

Whitewright police, in a separate public-safety post, said a July 9 traffic stop on SH-11 led to a felony arrest on a Fannin County sex-offender-registration warrant. The department said the stop began after two alleged Texas Transportation Code violations, but the post did not identify the code sections. Whitewright police said the Fannin County Sheriff's Office confirmed the warrant and that the person arrested was booked into the Grayson County Jail.

KTEN's first-party post described the Whitewright item as a traffic stop for transportation-code violations that ended in a felony arrest. The KTEN post placed the incident in Whitewright, Texas.

In Van Alstyne, the city announced a Van Alstyne Public Library grand reopening celebration for July 11 from noon to 3 p.m. A city update dated Nov. 24, 2025, said the library had closed for renovations about one week earlier, putting the reopening about eight months after the closure.

The City of Van Alstyne said library services did not stop entirely while the building was under renovation. On its transition-services page, the city directed patrons to continuing programs, digital resources and temporary service options during the work. City updates also tracked renovation progress for months; the Jan. 5, 2026, VA Insider update described a renovation update from Library Director Judy Kimzey, and the city update record says weekly renovation updates continued in January, February, March and April 2026.

Sherman city records show a prior public-library renovation handled through City Council action. In March 19, 2018 minutes, Sherman City Council approved Resolution 6354 for library furniture and shelving, and the minutes described that project as on track for budget and progress.
