The Sherman Police Department said its July 23 Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at the Texas Roadhouse on U.S. 75 raised $4,465.17 for Special Olympics Texas, a nearby Texoma result tied to a Law Enforcement Torch Run program that Special Olympics Texas describes as a statewide Texas Roadhouse fundraiser. For Cooke County readers, the total gives a North Texas example of officers and diners raising money for programs that Special Olympics Texas says serve Texans with intellectual disabilities.
Sherman police reported the total on the department's official Facebook page after promoting the annual dinner publicly and inviting families to take part. Special Olympics Texas listed Sherman as a 2026 Tip-A-Cop location, with a Sherman donation link and the same July 23 participation date.
The organization describes Tip-A-Cop as a Law Enforcement Torch Run event in which officers serve Texas Roadhouse guests and collect donations for Special Olympics Texas. Special Olympics Texas says its state organization provides continuing opportunities to roughly 59,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Sherman Police Department's public posts show the event had two public steps: an invitation before the dinner and an accounting afterward. Before the event, the department asked families to join officers at Texas Roadhouse. After the event, the department said the dinner raised the reported total for Special Olympics Texas.
Special Olympics Texas records also place Sherman in the North Region Tip-A-Cop lineup in 2025, when the organization scheduled the local stop for July 23 and July 24. That listing puts Sherman in consecutive years of the regional fundraiser, rather than as a one-year appearance.
Earlier Special Olympics Texas materials describe Tip-A-Cop as part of a broader Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising network tied to Texas Roadhouse locations across the state. The organization said in a 2023 release that law enforcement members served guests during Tip-A-Cop nights and that the money raised went toward Special Olympics Texas athletes in the area.
North Texas police reports give some scale without making Sherman's total a ranking. Denton police reported a lower Tip-A-Cop total than Sherman, while Irving police and McKinney police reported higher totals; McKinney's report included money raised with Collin College police. Those comparisons come from each department's public post, and the verified records do not show a statewide order of finish.
