Silver Alert issued for Lisa Windland, 68, last seen in Sherman

Texas authorities have an active Silver Alert for Lisa Windland, a 68-year-old woman reported missing after she was last seen the evening of July 6 in Sherman, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The state agency and the Sherman Police Department are asking the public for help finding her.

DPS logged the alert as number 2367, and it went out at the request of Sherman police. State records place Windland's last known location in the 800 block of West Center Street in Sherman at 6:30 p.m. on July 6, 2026. The official DPS flyer for the case names her as the missing person and lists her age as 68. The alert remained active in DPS records checked July 7.

Sherman police separately posted a welfare-concern notice for Windland on the department's Facebook page and asked anyone who knows where she is to contact the department.

The two official sources do not agree on Windland's age. The DPS flyer lists her as 68; the notice from Sherman police puts her at 69. Both records point to the same case, and each figure is reported here as the agency that published it stated it.

Silver Alerts are one of the public notification programs DPS operates statewide. The Texas Legislature created the system in 2007 to distribute information about missing older adults who have documented mental conditions. DPS lists conditions a case must meet before an alert is issued: the person generally must be 65 or older or have an Alzheimer's diagnosis and an impaired mental condition; the disappearance must pose a credible threat to the person's health and safety; investigators must rule out other explanations for the absence; and the alert must be requested within 72 hours of the person going missing.

The request begins with local police rather than the state. Under Texas Government Code Section 411.386, a local agency confirms that a missing senior meets the criteria and then notifies DPS, which verifies the information and issues the alert. Because the process runs through the state, departments in surrounding communities draw on the same system rather than a separate local-only alert.

The DPS public alert archive endpoint listed 1,210 Silver Alerts filed under alert type 6 when it was checked. The same archive showed 290 Amber Alerts and 248 Clear Alerts.

Sherman police have asked anyone with information about Windland to reach the department.
