Spain won the 2026 men's FIFA World Cup on Sunday, July 19, defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time. The George Tavern in Denison promoted the match as a Texoma FC-affiliated World Cup watch party, scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, according to FIFA's match records. The victory gave Spain its second men's World Cup championship, following the nation's previous title in 2010. According to FIFA, Spain's 2026 triumph made it the first country ever to hold both the men's and women's FIFA World Cup titles at the same time.

The George Tavern, located at 101 East Main Street in Denison, listed itself as a sponsor of Texoma FC on its website. Throughout the tournament, Texoma FC promoted World Cup viewing opportunities at the George Tavern. The club designated the final as its last watch party opportunity before the tournament's return in 2030.

The championship concluded a 39-day tournament that ran from June 11 through July 19. The 2026 World Cup represented the first expansion to 48 teams competing across 104 matches in the tournament's format. According to FIFA, the expanded competition drew 6,810,966 total spectators across all matches—a record attendance for World Cup tournaments.

The tournament took place across North America, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico serving as joint hosts. Texas hosted two official World Cup cities: Dallas and Houston. According to FIFA's records, Dallas hosted nine matches during the tournament, more than any other single host city in the competition.
