Theatricks casts 'Bedtime Stories (As Told by Our Dad)' for September run in Sherman

SHERMAN — Sherman Community Players has named the cast for "Bedtime Stories (As Told by Our Dad)," the show that will open the Theatricks portion of the company's 78th season with a Sept. 4-13, 2026, run at the Honey McGee Playhouse in Sherman. Trip Estes will play Dad, according to the cast list posted on the company's website, and the company said on Facebook that more than 40 people tried out for parts.

For readers keeping tabs on Cooke County stages, this one is not a local production. The show will be staged in Sherman, and Theatricks itself is part of Sherman Community Players rather than any Gainesville organization.

The cast list on the Sherman Community Players audition page fills in the other featured parts. Thad Sumrall is set to play Wally. Chandler Crump will appear as Katie, and Sailor Marney takes the role of Ashley. The page presents those four names at the top of the roster for the production.

Sherman Community Players made the announcement public through its official Facebook account. In the post, the company congratulated the new cast and said more than 40 people had tried out for the show. The same post told followers the production was coming to Theatricks in September.

The casting news followed the close of the program's summer show. The previous Theatricks production, "Junie B. Jones The Musical," ran July 10 through July 19, and online ticket sales for it ended July 19, according to the show's page on the Tickets to the City sales site. The "Bedtime Stories" cast list appeared later that same week.

Sherman Arts, which publishes the company's season schedule, lists "Bedtime Stories" as the first Theatricks entry of the 78th season, with performances beginning Sept. 4 and closing Sept. 13. The schedule counts eight productions across the season, and three of the eight are cast through the Theatricks program. Sherman Arts describes Sherman Community Players as the third-oldest community theater in Texas.

On its website, Sherman Community Players identifies Theatricks as the company's children's theater and gives the Honey McGee Playhouse, 313 Mulberry Street in Sherman, as the program's performance venue.

Gainesville has a community theater of its own in Butterfield Stage Players. The nonprofit was formed in 1979 and operates at 201 S. Denton Street, according to the group's listing with the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, which identifies it as a Cooke County community theater.
