Three departments, county fire marshal named in Riley Road fire response in Whitesboro

Whitesboro Fire Department reported that its crews were working a fire in the 1000 block of Riley Road in Whitesboro, and the department's public incident post names Collinsville Fire Department, Sherwood Shores Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Grayson County Fire Marshal as part of the response. Whitesboro's post describes the call as a structure fire.

The post places the outside agencies alongside Whitesboro's own units and names the county fire marshal among those involved. It also says emergency crews were working the scene.

What burned is not settled in the public record. The accessible text of the Whitesboro post does not identify the property as an RV or a camper. It gives no cause and no injury information. The post carries no damage estimate and does not say when the scene was cleared.

Whitesboro Fire Department says on its website that it was founded in 1915 and covers a fire district of 54.4 square miles in western Grayson County. The department describes itself as a combination operation and says it continues to rely on volunteers to answer larger emergencies and to put additional apparatus in service.

Its ambulance service reaches farther than the fire district. According to the same site, the department's EMS division covers more than 200 square miles taking in parts or all of seven fire districts and four cities. Mutual aid and cross-jurisdiction response are routine in western Grayson County, a pattern that coverage area helps explain.

Riley Road has drawn a multi-department response before. An official incident report from Collinsville Fire Department says Collinsville, Sadler and Whitesboro fire departments answered a reported grass fire on Riley Road on June 21. That account comes from Collinsville's own public record of the call.

Grayson County's 2025 assistance district page says the county pays volunteer and city-based emergency departments to answer calls in unincorporated areas. That page put Fire and EMS costs at $2.9 million in 2025 and listed a budgeted projection above $3.2 million for 2026. A ballot measure to fund unincorporated-area Fire and EMS through Grayson County Assistance District No. 1 failed on Nov. 4, 2025. Official county results record 2,717 votes for the measure and 4,382 against it.

Whitesboro Fire Department has released no further details on the Riley Road call, including what kind of structure was involved or what started the fire. This report will be updated if the department or the Grayson County Fire Marshal makes more information public.
