Valley View ISD’s official calendar listed the varsity matchup at Howe as a district contest. That designation puts the result within the competition that determines postseason qualification: University Interscholastic League rules send the top four teams from each Class 3A Division II district to the playoffs.

Valley View and Callisburg share District 7 with Howe under UIL’s current alignment, connecting the game to the district race involving both local schools. The other members are Bells, Blue Ridge, Leonard and S&S Consolidated.

The schools were grouped differently in UIL’s previous alignment. Valley View competed in a district with Henrietta, Holliday, Jacksboro, Millsap and Wichita Falls City View. Howe’s district included Gunter. Under the current assignments, Valley View and Howe compete for playoff places in the same district.

For Valley View, the Howe result was closer than either of the other defeats in its current losing streak. Its MaxPreps schedule records the following results:

| Opponent | Date | Valley View’s result |

| --- | --- | --- |

| Blue Ridge | Sept. 25 | Lost 42–21 |

| Bells | Oct. 9 | Lost 43–12 |

| Howe | Oct. 16 | Lost 20–13 |

Each of those earlier victories came by a wider margin than Friday’s result, a comparison of the published scores shows. Valley View also scored against a Howe team that had held two opponents scoreless during the stretch, according to the same results.

UIL identifies MaxPreps as its partner for collecting scores and maintaining team information. The league says schools’ submissions become available to UIL, while scores submitted by the public appear after verification.

Howe’s remaining regular-season schedule lists a visit to Bells on Oct. 23 and a home game against Leonard on Nov. 6.
