Valley View school tax vote leads Cooke County’s Nov. 3 ballot

District figures show Proposition A would raise operating revenue while setting a lower combined tax rate than the district projects if voters reject it.

Valley View ISD voters will decide Nov. 3, 2026, whether to approve a school tax proposal that would provide more operating revenue while lowering the combined rate compared with rejection, according to the district’s comparison. Its figures put the difference at about $60 annually per $100,000 of unchanged taxable value, before tax-ceiling effects.

Under the district’s Proposition A comparison, the operating portion would rise while the debt-payment portion would fall by a larger amount. The district says the election creates no new debt and that operating revenue pays everyday school expenses.

The amended election order describes the measure as a tax increase and projects greater operating-tax collections than the previous year. That calculation measures revenue growth; the district’s approval-versus-rejection comparison measures the combined tax rate applied to taxable property.

The district’s published comparison provides these rates:

| Rate per $100 of taxable value | If approved | If rejected, district scenario |

| --- | ---: | ---: |

| School operations | $0.7489 | $0.6839 |

| Debt payments | $0.12971 | $0.2545 |

| Total | $0.87861 | $0.9384 |

According to the amended order, trustees adopted it Sept. 17 to replace the August order because the original revenue calculation used an incorrect prior-year taxable value. The amended record gives the corrected projection:

| Operating-tax revenue increase over prior year | Dollars | Percent |

| --- | ---: | ---: |

| Original calculation, superseded | $6,595 | 0.14% |

| Corrected calculation | $581,568 | 13.50% |

If Proposition A fails, the order bars trustees from adopting a rate above the district’s voter-approval tax rate.

Cooke County’s general-election notice also lists federal and state races, along with district, county and precinct offices.

Gainesville voters may accept or reject each charter proposition separately under the city’s special-election order. That county-posted document describes voting arrangements but does not supply the proposed amendments’ wording.

Valley View ISD’s order sets early voting for Oct. 19–30 at its sole in-person early-voting location, the Cooke County Courthouse Annex, 112 South Dixon Street in Gainesville. The county’s general-election notice includes Saturday and Sunday hours during that period.

The county notice requires Election Day voters to use their assigned precinct polling place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The separate Election Day polling-location list places Precinct 10 at Cross Timbers Church, Precinct 11 at Valley View Baptist Church and Precinct 12 at Era Community Center.

Gainesville’s election order requires mail-ballot applications to arrive by close of business Oct. 23; a postmark alone does not meet the deadline.
