A man listed in Oklahoma jail records as a Waco, Texas, resident faces two felony assault counts in Love County, Oklahoma, which borders Cooke County, Texas. Booking records from the Love County Sheriff's Office show Leonard Kevon Cobbs was jailed on July 20, 2026, on assault-and-battery allegations that include assault and battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault and battery.
The case moved to district court three days after the booking. Love County District Court records show felony case CF-2026-113 was filed on July 23, 2026, against a defendant listed as Leonard Cobbs III. One count is assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The second is aggravated assault and battery with great bodily injury. The second count is worded slightly differently in the two records, with the court file adding a reference to great bodily injury. The two records also render the name differently: the sheriff's booking entry carries a middle name, and the court file carries a generational suffix.
What the open record does not supply is an account of what happened. GvilleTX Newsroom reviewed the sheriff's booking page, the felony docket and a related probable-cause case filed as CPC-2026-19. The probable-cause docket lists the charges and shows that a probable-cause affidavit was filed, but the affidavit's narrative does not appear in the docket text posted online. The booking log likewise gives charges without describing the alleged conduct. The newsroom could not locate a public primary-source record confirming that the alleged victim was stabbed in the neck, and the online docket text does not carry that injury detail. It is not asserted here. The review covered the text published on those pages as of the filing of this report.
The probable-cause case identifies the investigating officer as Lance Biswell of the Lighthorse Police Department rather than a Love County sheriff's deputy, though the sheriff's office operates the jail where the booking was recorded. The Chickasaw Lighthorse Police say on their department website that their jurisdiction takes in Love County and that the agency is divided into precincts, among them WinStar, Ada and Newcastle.
Love County sits on Oklahoma's southern edge, and the sheriff's office lists Cooke County, Texas, as a bordering county. Both the arrest and the prosecution are Oklahoma matters, even though the booking record gives a Texas address for the defendant. The case is listed in the Oklahoma State Courts Network under Love County District Court.
The docket entries reviewed for this report give the charges and the filing dates. They do not include a narrative of the alleged incident. A criminal charge is an allegation, and the records reviewed do not show a conviction.
