Water main repair could shut off service in part of Denison on Thursday

Some Denison residents could be without water for much of the day Thursday, July 16, while crews repair a water main at Murray and Armstrong, according to a notice posted by the City of Denison. Work is set to begin at 8:30 a.m., and the city says the repair could take up to 10 hours. The warning covers residents inside a mapped impact area the city published with the notice.

The shutdown itself is planned, and the city tied it directly to the Murray-and-Armstrong repair, according to the notice. Whether households lose service depends on what the work requires: the city said residents in the impact area would be without water only if crews have to shut off service to complete the repair. A shutoff lasting the full 10 hours would keep water off into the early evening.

For residents who do end up without water, the notice includes a contact number to call for water delivery while the repair continues.

The warning came two days ahead of the work. Denison posted the notice to its Alert Center at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, and classified it as an Emergency Alert rather than only a general news item.

Denison budget records also list several debt-funded water and sewer infrastructure projects in recent years. Certificates issued in 2018 paid for water lines, according to those records, and certificates issued in 2019 covered waterworks and elevated-tank projects along with distribution-and-collection work.

A separate Denison water program is also set to reach a construction phase this month. The city's lead-service-line inventory and replacement project is backed by $10 million from the Texas Water Development Board, money that covers both the count of existing service lines and the replacements that follow. As of May 2026, the city said it had inventoried 98 percent of Denison's more than 12,700 water services. Replacement construction under the program was scheduled to begin in July 2026, the same month as the Murray-and-Armstrong repair.

The region has larger water-system work in planning stages. Nearby Sherman's official capital-project list includes a 36-inch West Sherman water main of roughly 73,000 linear feet and a 2-million-gallon elevated storage tank.
