What 9 health inspection records show about Gainesville-area restaurants

The public-records batch documents on-site corrections, one conditional result and eight results needing attention across inspections dated from 2017 through 2025.

On-site corrections and some low violation counts were among the findings in routine Texas DSHS health inspections of Gainesville and Cooke County restaurants dated June 22, 2017, through Sept. 10, 2025. GvilleTX obtained the nine inspection records through a public-records request; the batch includes one conditional result and eight results needing attention.

Two records documented corrections on site, while Gainesville Wolf Den Inc. and Trails Inn Restaurant each had only one cited item. Trails Inn’s item was noncritical, with no critical items recorded. The nine records cover eight named establishments because Goodies on Board appears in two inspections on different dates.

Trails Inn Restaurant had a conditional result, according to the April 4, 2018, inspection report, which recorded one noncritical item and two demerits. The establishment could not present evidence of a current Retail Food Operation Permit.

Gainesville Wolf Den Inc. had a result needing attention, according to the Feb. 20, 2018, inspection report. It recorded one critical item and two demerits, citing thermometer requirements and noting that no thermometers were observed in two reach-in coolers.

82 Travel Center had a result needing attention, according to the Dec. 1, 2021, inspection report. It listed missing soap and towels at the burger-place handwashing sink, vent-cleaning needs and dust on vents, and a very dirty mixer. A chlorine reading of 10 ppm and missing bulk-flour labeling were marked corrected on site.

Neu Ranch House had a result needing attention, according to the Nov. 30, 2021, inspection report. It documented missing bathroom handwashing signage, bathroom sink hot water measuring only 91 degrees, missing hand towels, dented cans in rotation, and no sanitizer in a cleaning-rag bucket. Baked chicken measured 120 degrees against the report’s stated holding requirement of 135 degrees. Missing buffet signage telling customers to take new tableware on each trip was corrected on site.

Cornerstone Cafe had a result needing attention, according to the Dec. 1, 2021, inspection report. Findings included an uninspected carbonator backflow device; a cleaning cloth outside sanitizer; missing soap, towels and signage at a handwashing sink; and bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food. Inspectors also documented cigarettes on a food-preparation shelf, candy and an uncovered personal drink in the preparation area, and a utensil left in refrigerated meat.

Goodies on Board had results needing attention in both supplied records. The Nov. 30, 2021, inspection report marked checklist items 10, 41 and 53 and noted missing handwashing signage and a restroom waste receptacle without a cover. The Sept. 10, 2025, inspection report documented missing gloves in the food-preparation area, missing handwashing signage, ready-to-eat foods requiring temperature control outside proper cold-holding temperatures, missing food dates, and a mop left in a bucket instead of hanging. The later report identified an open food-service cooler lid as the probable cause of the temperature issue and stated that a follow-up would occur in 10 days; this batch does not provide that follow-up result.

Neu Enterprises Inc. had a result needing attention, according to the June 22, 2017, inspection report, which recorded 15 demerits. It cited nonfood-contact surface requirements, ventilation hood components that could not be removed for cleaning or replacement, considerable dust on the hood, and a missing thermometer in a reach-in cooler holding sliced onion and dressing. Cleaning findings included soiled utensils stored between equipment and a wall, food-preparation and three-compartment sink areas, and a dark, slimy substance in multiple walk-in cooler areas. Waste-handling findings included equipment stored outside and open garbage-container lids, with conditions the report said could contribute to rodent harborage and insect infestation.

Rockin W Tavern had a result needing attention, according to the March 30, 2023, inspection report. It listed three violation categories: permit to operate; proper use and storage of wiping cloths; and warewashing facilities, including installation, maintenance, use and test strips.

Methods note: These Texas records use two report types: EH-06 (Establishment Inspection) and the TFER-style scored inspection. The EH-06 form carries no numeric score, so a missing score is normal and not a bad sign. These are the inspection records received in this public-records request, not necessarily every inspection conducted in the period.
