Whitesboro ISD postpones senior pep rally; senior-night game still on the calendar

The district calendar says the Oct. 30 rally will be rescheduled but gives no new date and no reason. The varsity game against Pottsboro remains listed for that evening.

Whitesboro ISD has postponed its Oct. 30, 2026, senior pep rally, according to the district's official calendar, which says the event will be rescheduled but names no new date. The senior-night varsity football game against Pottsboro still appears on the high school calendar for that evening.

The calendar listing gives no reason for the postponement. The primary sources available to GvilleTX Newsroom did not establish that the change followed the death of a former Whitesboro ISD teacher.

A separate district event listing had originally set the rally for a half-hour block in the late morning, 10:24 to 10:54 a.m. As of Oct. 30, the Whitesboro High School calendar still showed the Pottsboro game at Bearcat Stadium from 7 to 10 p.m.

For students and families, the practical question is when the rally will happen. The district's listing says only that it will be rescheduled.

Whitesboro High School describes grief among the concerns its school counselors address through short-term, solution-focused counseling, according to the school's published description of its counseling services. The Texas Education Agency identifies individual counseling, small-group counseling and crisis response as methods school counselors use when immediate personal concerns threaten a student's educational or personal development.

Denison ISD's 2024-25 district improvement plan, which is published online, includes a mental-health policy that names grief-informed and trauma-informed practices among the areas covered by the state's recommended school programs.

In a 2020 survey of 675 members of the American Federation of Teachers, conducted by the New York Life Foundation and the union, 58% of respondents said they had experienced the death of a significant member of their school community during their careers. Half, 50%, said they had experienced the death of a staff member.
