In a GoFundMe fundraiser dated Aug. 20, 2026, Krisla Mitcheson of Whitesboro said a driver she described as drunk crashed into her home and car, leaving the single mother and her three children trying to secure another place to stay. The crash is a nearby story for Cooke County readers because Whitesboro sits just east of the county line in Grayson County, where TxDOT data show DUI-alcohol crashes remain part of the local road-safety picture.
Mitcheson, writing on the fundraiser she created, said the collision left the family facing damage to the house, the loss of a vehicle and uncertainty over what can be repaired. She said she did not yet know whether the home could be saved and said insurance claims would take time.
The fundraiser says the family is seeking help with relocation, basic needs and legal costs. Mitcheson said insurance was not covering the loss of her car, and she said she expected to hire a lawyer to seek compensation. The page lists the organizer location as Whitesboro.
The family's account comes from the fundraiser. TxDOT says Texas crash reports are confidential and are not open for general online viewing, though eligible requesters may obtain a Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report through the agency's purchase system. A separate TxDOT crash-data page says reporting agencies have 10 days to send crash reports to the department, a lag that can matter when a crash happened recently.
Texas law does not wait for a driver to reach the 0.08 blood-alcohol threshold if alcohol or drugs have already affected driving ability, according to TxDOT's impaired-driving guidance. The agency says a first DWI conviction can carry a fine, jail time and a license suspension.

Statewide, TxDOT recorded fewer traffic deaths in 2025 than in 2024, but alcohol remained tied to about one-fourth of Texas traffic deaths in the agency's annual crash facts. NHTSA's 2024 national materials put drunk-driver involvement at about three in ten U.S. traffic deaths, with 11,904 deaths in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes that year.
In the fundraiser, Mitcheson said the crash left her trying to restore safety at home while deciding where her family can stay and how to replace what was damaged.
