Denison approves razing Waterloo Pool after safety inspections

The city estimates demolition will cost about $250,000 and says insurance money will pay for it.

Denison’s City Council approved demolition of Waterloo Pool on Oct. 5. Mayor Robert Crawley told KXII that crews will demolish the entire facility.

City officials cited safety risks from worsening structural conditions, and contractors who inspected the facility recommended demolition. The decision followed the council’s Sept. 15 action closing the pool indefinitely.

The city has arranged for displaced swimmers to use Austin College’s indoor pool free from 9 to 11 a.m. on weekdays. Those hours will begin after the college secures enough lifeguards, according to the city.
