ID required
- Requirements
- Bring: proof of identity (photo ID) for the head of household, Social Security cards or numbers for everyone in the household, proof of residency (utility bill, lease, or mail showing Texas address), income verification documents (recent pay stubs, award letters, or other proof of monthly/annual income), and expense receipts (rent/mortgage, utilities, child care). Proof of pregnancy is required for Medicaid or CHIP Perinatal applicants. Citizenship or qualified-immigration documentation is required where applicable.
- Eligibility
- Eligibility is based on household size and income. SNAP uses Texas's Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility, with gross income generally up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (single-person household monthly limit approximately $2,152; add roughly $757 per additional household member); net income must be at or below 100% FPL after deductions. Households with members age 60+ or receiving SSI are exempt from the gross income test. TANF requires low income, few assets, and a child under 18 living in the home. Medicaid and CHIP Perinatal require pregnancy or children and meeting program-specific income rules.
